Are you considering a career working with nonprofit organizations? Would you like to build experience by working with community groups in Athens?

The Common Ground Internship Consortium is your way to explore a career with community organizations, meet great people, and work in a fun, dynamic environment.

How it works:

Common Ground is inviting applications from current or recent undergraduate students for internships with community organizations this spring.

Why 20 hours? Even though this internship is unpaid, we want you to be able to pay your bills.

Interns will work 20 hours a week for twelve weeks starting in January. Interns will work from the Common Ground office in downtown Athens, and their clients will be chosen from our affiliate organizations that have submitted project proposals. As we select projects for the spring, we put an emphasis on finding projects that will help interns build valuable experience and provide them with a solid set of accomplishments from the spring.

The work environment:

Common Ground, now in its fourth year of operation, is a community resource center that offers educational programs, shared resources, and organizational support to those working for progressive social change. Our office is an exciting, active place: on a typical day there may be a work session for Free IT Athens, a board meeting of Daily Co-op, and a recording session for Hot 100.7 FM, all affiliate groups of Common Ground. By spending even a few days around here, you will encounter the breadth of grassroots work in Athens.

We're hosting all of the interns here together for a purpose: we believe that working side-by-side facilitates collaborative solutions and fresh ideas. It's also fun. At weekly gatherings, interns will share their progress, swap suggestions, and learn from each other and guest presenters. All through the time, our mentors will be here to offer support and ideas.

What you bring:

This program is designed for motivated, creative participants, regardless of how much experience they have in the nonprofit sector. As an intern, you bring your energy and ideas: Common Ground and your project client will provide the rest.

Start a career serving the community and promoting social change. Apply to be a part of the Common Ground Internship Consortium.
