Purpose: Promoting the organization to supporters and the community at large to increase participation in our services to ensure a strong a vibrant activist community in Athens.

Results: A community that is well-informed about the goals, services and achievements of the organization and is inspired to participate.

Activities Involved: Ensuring that publicity materials (including fliers, press releases, public service announcements, brochures, and value-added products) are distributed around town on a regular basis; ensuring that publicity materials are generated in a timely fashion for upcoming events; double-checking that upcoming events are properly listed on online calendar and posted on website; helping organize and promote partnerships with local businesses; helping with planning events to publicize the organization; oversee the development of quarterly newsletter; frequent checking of email; monthly updates to Board of Trustees about upcoming events and publicity needs and reports on past events; organizing regular meetings of publicity staff

Success Measures: Regular notices about events of the organization in local media; semi-annual feature articles about the organization in local media; PSAs about the organization on local radio stations; distribution of fliers at least a week in advance of advertised events; increased attendance at hosted events; ample supplies of brochures displayed around town; local businesses displaying their partnership with the organization; distribution of quarterly newsletter to members and supporters; regular meetings of the publicity staff

Qualifications Needed: Proficiency with making and editing fliers by hand or with computer software; proficiency with email and frequent access to internet; good written and spoken communication skills for writing press releases, PSA copy and promoting the organization; good organizational skills to oversee editing of quarterly newsletter; ability to coordinate regular meetings; understanding of the premise and goals of Common Ground

Timeframe: six months - year
